Portmeirion is a unique tourist village in Gwynedd, North Wales, primarily designed and built by Sir Clough Williams-Ellis between 1925 and 1975 in the Baroque style. Though the construction of Castell Deudraeth dates back to 1188, the village as a whole is now owned by a charitable trust. Its distinctive design and location have made it a popular setting for numerous films and TV shows.
While Portmeirion was built long before accessibility was a consideration, the charitable trust has done a remarkable job of making the village as accessible as possible, with accessible routes and pathways throughout. Already a breathtaking destination, at Christmas it transforms into a magical winter wonderland, complete with a magnificent Christmas market and craft fair spread across the site. After browsing the market and shops, we’ll gather at one of the local restaurants staying in Portmeirion for a festive three-course meal, rounding off the day in style.
The Anglesey Sea Zoo is an aquarium and independent research and marine education center located on the south coast of Anglesey island, just outside the village of Brynsiencyn in North Wales. As the largest aquarium in Wales, it showcases over 150 native species and offers a fully accessible experience, making it a fantastic way to spend the morning learning about local marine wildlife and the ongoing conservation efforts to protect them. During the festive season, the zoo also hosts a range of additional activities, including visits from Santa and various food and craft stalls.
After an informative morning at the aquarium, we'll visit the famously named village of Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch (try saying that 10 times fast!). It's a perfect spot for a fun photo-op and a bit of laughter as we all attempt to pronounce it correctly. While there, you can explore charming local Welsh shops and pick up some souvenirs before we enjoy a scenic drive back to the hotel.
Would it really be Christmas without a trip to the theatre? After a hearty breakfast, we’ll head to the charming Victorian seaside town of Llandudno. Though the town is a popular destination during the sunny summer months, it transforms into a true winter wonderland during the festive season, making it the perfect spot for a memorable Christmas break. After spending a couple of hours exploring the town, we’ll head to the local theatre to enjoy a magical Christmas pantomime.
Today, your accessible Festive Llandudno Tour comes to an end. After breakfast, our accessible coach will depart the hotel for our various UK drop-off locations. Relax, take in the views of the Welsh countryside through the window and enjoy a little commentary from your Tour Manager. Now, all that’s left to do is say farewell to new friends and plan your next Limitless adventure!
