Beaches, Boat Trips & Steam Trains

A popular seaside resort since the early 1800s, Bournemouth’s award-winning beaches and beautiful promenade continue to attract visitors from around the world. Its position at the eastern edge of the Jurassic Coast also ensures it’s an ideal base from which to explore one of the south’s most breathtaking stretches of coastline. The smugglers’ haven of Swanage is within easy reach, as are Brownsea Island and the port city of Southampton.

5-Day Accessible Holiday Itinerary

Your holiday starts with a day exploring Bournemouth pier, promenade and city centre, and a visit to the excellent oceanarium. Next comes either an excursion to picturesque Brownsea Island or an accessible boat trip out of Hamble. Which excursion runs depends on local tides, and Limitless Advisors can tell you which trip is most likely on specific dates before you book. Finally, we head to Swanage for a ride through the Purbecks on a traditional steam train.

Itinerary

Day 1 Travel to Bournemouth
Accessible coach

We’ll meet you at one of our designated UK pick-up points, help you board our accessible coach and ensure you’re comfortable for the journey. All our coaches benefit from hydraulic lift or ramp access, and wheelchairs can be safely secured in place, so there’s no need to transfer to a standard seat. Similarly, all our drivers have experience working with Limitless Travellers and understand and respect individual access needs.

On arrival, you’ll be served complimentary tea and coffee while the Limitless Team helps you check in. Then, you’ll have time to relax, unwind and explore your accessible room, before enjoying a delicious three-course meal in the hotel restaurant. Your Tour Manager will round out the evening with a little entertainment for those not quite ready to hit the hay.

Day 2 Oceanarium & Bournemouth Promenade
Bournemouth Oceanarium

After starting the day with a hearty breakfast at the hotel, we’ll board the coach for the two-minute drive to Bournemouth Oceanarium. Vetted for accessibility by our own team, the oceanarium is home to a spectacular array of marine wildlife, including turtles, penguins, sharks, stingrays and dwarf crocodiles, to name a few. It also features an underwater tunnel and feeding sessions throughout the day.

In the afternoon, you’ll have plenty of time to explore Bournemouth’s award-winning beaches, stroll the promenade, head to the pier and explore the city’s bustling town centre. We also highly recommend the beautiful public gardens, where Bournemouth’s unique microclimate sustains lush, verdant and varied plantlife. There's the opportunity swim in the hotel's heated, hoist-accessible outdoor pool in the early evening, too.

Day 3 Brownsea or Accessible Boat Trip
IMG 1830 (5)

Brownsea Island is one of the last refuges for red squirrels in the south of England and a phenomenal spot for birdwatchers and twitchers. It was also the birthplace of the modern scouting and guiding movement. Today, if the tide allows, we’ll board an accessible ferry and enjoy an afternoon exploring the island’s lagoon and beaches.

However, if tides prevent the accessible ferry from running, we’ll head to Hamble, near Southampton, instead. There you’ll board a fully accessible powerboat and head out into Southampton Water and the Solent. The vessel is adapted to guarantee comfort and enable everyone to have a go at the helm, so prepare to get behind the wheel! When back on dry land, we’ll explore the local marina before heading to a Miller and Carter for a well-earned lunch.

Day 4 Swanage & Coastal Steam Train
Accessible Swanage steam train

On your last full day in Dorset, we’ll make our way to the traditional seaside town of Swanage. Located south of Bournemouth and Poole, on the eastern end of the Isle of Purbeck, the town is well-known for its striking coastline, breathtaking natural surroundings and historic association with smugglers.

Swanage is also the point of embarkation for the Swanage Heritage Railway, a steam-powered service that operates along a 9.5-mile (15.3 km) stretch of track, with stops at Norden, Corfe Castle, Harman's Cross, and Herston Halt. After seeing some of the coast from the rails, we’ll head to the historic Knoll House Hotel for dinner. Here, Winston Churchill himself once took tea after inspecting the local coastal defences during WWII.

Day 5 Breakfast & Travel Home

General FAQs

How do I book a UK coach holiday?

The first step in the booking process is speaking to a Limitless Travel Advisor on 0800 711 7112. While many Limitless Travellers contact us knowing exactly which coach holiday they want to book, many also call us for advice. We often help our travellers pick out the perfect holiday based on their needs and interests. So don’t hesitate to get in touch, even if you’re not sure which holiday to book yet.

When you’re ready to book, you’ll pay a deposit to confirm your place. The remainder of the balance is payable closer to the departure date. Flexible payment plans are available, allowing you to spread the cost of your holiday.

You will also discuss your holiday and needs with your Personal Travel Advisor to ensure you have the best possible care package and everything has been considered. Finally, the Limitless Care Team will contact you three months before departure to confirm you have all you need, are happy with arrangements, and are ready for your Limitless holiday.

What is included in the price of my holiday?

You can check the What’s Included? section at the top of each tour page for a comprehensive account of what’s included in the price of a specific holiday. Broadly, the following is included as standard in every holiday:

  • Accessible coach travel

Where are your coach holiday pick-up points?

We operate 45 unique pick-up locations across the UK, including major cities such as Birmingham, London, Bristol and Manchester. So there’s a very good chance we have one close to you.

Not every pick-up location is available on every tour. With this in mind, if you’re interested in a particular coach holiday, we recommend contacting a Limitless Travel Advisor to confirm your nearest departure point. You can reach the limitless team on 0800 711 7112.

On arrival at your preferred pick-up location, keep an eye out for the Limitless Team. We’ll be wearing dark blue Limitless-branded tops and always make sure we’re easy to find. The team will help you store your luggage in the coach and assist with boarding.

What kind of accessible coach transport will I travel on?

We use the same transport provider for all our coach holidays, so we can guarantee a consistent experience and ensure Limitless Travellers’ needs are always met. All drivers have been trained in their use by the coach company’s certified lift technicians.
